Comment

The certificates are good for 6 months, and the expiration date will overlap in June and December if you hold onto them, so you can save them up to make a bigger purchase if you'd prefer that, or you can just use them right away.  The requirement of having to make a 1000 yen purchase to use a certificate does make it slightly less convenient than just using them as you want, but I'd imagine most people won't have trouble finding things to use them on, some of the stores carry food, alcohol, books, and other lifestyle products which you can also use them on. The large number of stores also means there's probably a place you can use them near where you live.
