Details
Membership to the U-NEXT video streaming service, normally 4,917 for 3 months or 19668 for a year. This lets you watch anything included in the normal service. You also get points depending on how many shares you own. The points can be used for either newer movies that aren't on the included service yet, live events, or even for the additional subscription services for music streaming and a sports package. On the main recommended plan you pay 2189yen a month for the streaming service plus 1200 points each month.
Having a U-NEXT subscription also lets you read magazines, there are also some books and manga included but most of those require points. Their video library includes some adult content, which is separated from the main one for some obvious reasons, but the login is the same.
Requirements
100 shares gets you a 3 month voucher plus 1000 points which will expire at the end of the duration. Since it comes twice a year you get 6 months in total.
If you have 1000 shares, you get a special login which works as long as you keep your shares, and you get 1800 points each month.
Comment
U-NEXT has a lot of good stuff to watch, and as of this writing they have all of the HBO content. There's a good range of content from classics to newer stuff, and with the points you can watch newer things much earlier than any other service.
If you want to have a permanent active subscription but don't want to buy 1000 shares and can live without the points, one possibility is to have a family member or friend buy 100 shares in their account, which will then get you 6 more months and you can simply redeem their code right when yours expires.
